Hi, I'm Sam and I'm sixteen. I think I started this blog about a year ago as an outlet for all the feelings that I couldn't otherwise express - inadequacy, loneliness, isolation, disenchantment, anger, depression, that sort of thing. If you care to look through my earlier posts, you'll also note the struggles with appearance and self harm that I encountered, maybe still encounter. I don't actually know., although I'm reasonably certain that food and weight issues don't play a huge role in my life anymore. Maybe that's because one of the medications I'm on, Topamax, makes the thought of eating a bit gross actually. For me it's as if the food is just another object in the room, and my hunger is just another feeling of hurt. But you didn't really need to know that - my apologies.
What you really need to know when reading this blog is that I live in sunny South Africa. In Johannesburg, precisely, although Cape Town is really my favourite city here. I love ballet, for me it's a way of life and so much a part of who I am that it seems odd to mention it like that in one sentence. I play the piano and the violin, although I've just started y foray into string instruments. I've played the piano for ten years i think? Since I was wee. Don't even get me started on composers.
I like books and maths and words and science. I'm probably insufferable at times, but luckily you don't deal with that. At some point in my life, I'd like to live in Norway or Sweden, in Cape Town, in London, and to make a horseback trip through Patagonia or the American Midwest.
After I leave school, I'd like to become a doctor or a surgeon. I'll make specialization decisions when it comes to that, but not now. That would be silly.
I came out to my parents because I was excruciatingly bored. That may or may not have been a bad decision.
